My story

I’ve lived with vitiligo for almost 30 years.

I noticed my first white patch at the age of 13. At the time, there was very little awareness around vitiligo, but fortunately I grew up surrounded by love, support, and acceptance from my family and friends. Because of that, I never felt less worthy or “not enough.”

That support helped me build confidence early in life.

I never hid my patches or tried to cover them. Instead, I learned to speak openly about vitiligo and live comfortably in my skin. Over time, I realised something important:

Looking different does not define who we are.

I’m originally from Hungary and moved abroad at the age of 23. Carrying that confidence with me helped me navigate new places, cultures, and experiences without feeling the need to hide who I was.

The Turning Point

In 2020, my younger sister was diagnosed with cancer.

The emotional stress during those years triggered my vitiligo to spread much more rapidly and changed the way I viewed health, stress, and the connection between mind and body.

After losing her, I began appreciating my body and skin even more. Vitiligo may change the appearance of my skin, but my skin still protects me every day.

That experience inspired me to explore lifestyle, wellbeing, stress management, nutrition, and emotional health more deeply — and ultimately led to the creation of MyPatchPower.

Why I Created MyPatchPower

MyPatchPower is more than a children’s book.

It’s a growing movement built around confidence, representation, education, and learning to live comfortably in our perfectly imperfect skin.

I created Mila’s Adventure in Skin City because I strongly believe in the power of early education. The sooner children learn about vitiligo, the more normal and understood it becomes.

The book was designed to help:

  • children with vitiligo feel seen and confident
  • children without vitiligo develop empathy and understanding
  • families start gentle conversations about visible differences

Because knowledge creates empathy. And empathy creates kindness.
